Garlic
I grow garlic as it was originally intended - planted in autumn and harvested in summer. This is why it has a truly great taste! The garlic is based on two varieties - Printanor: this is a French variety that has a very high alliin content. It is recognized world wide for its taste and quality. South West Purple - a hardneck variety that has medium to large sized bulbs of superb flavour.
All the garlic has a long shelf life as it is dried by natural means over a period of three to four weeks. I only trim the roots slightly so as to keep the moisture in the drying shed to a minimum. It is then tied and strung up to dry allowing all the oils and flavours to drain out of the tops and back into the bulbs. When ready for sale they are topped and cleaned taking a minimum amount of papers from the bulbs - this keeps the cloves secure within the papers protecting them against diseases and damage.
Roses
As wholesome food feeds the body so a beautiful rose will feed the soul. Literature and art over the centuries have extolled not only the beauty of the rose bloom but also the exquisite perfume. With this in mind I have set the criteria for variety selection. The rose is the favourite flower of many, so with plenty of land to spare I decided that I would extend my personal plantings and grow roses for picking so others may also enjoy them. As the farm is organically certified the blooms we produce can be used as a source for any food decorating that you like to indulge in!
Shallots
Planted on the shortest day and lifted on the longest day. The shallots are true French Shallots - Allium cepa var. aggregatum. I also grow heritage vegetables in season!
